Dog Bites
Four million Americans are victims of dog bites every year. Over one million dog bite victims require medical attention for their injuries. Often times, dog bite victims’ injuries are inflicted by familiar dogs owned by friends and family. Fortunately, most property owners have insurance policies to compensate dog bite victims for their medical care and for the permanent disfigurement dog bites cause.
According to the Illinois Animal Control Act, dog owners are liable for the injuries caused by their dogs. Dog bite victims must take steps to protect their rights. First, identify the dog and get the name and address of the dog. Second, get the address and telephone numbers of all witnesses. Third, take pictures of all wounds, bruises and bloody clothing.
Importantly, a dog bite victim should contact a dog bite lawyer at Strellis & Field. Our lawyers have much experience in recovering the maximum compensation for innocent people who have been attacked by dogs and other potentially aggressive animals under the Illinois Animal Control Act.
